It looks like ice cream just got healthy. No really! Here's a healthy recipe that's dairy free, gluten free and contains no refined sugar. It's bananas. Scroll down to find out how to make healthy ice-cream.
I have to thank my super dietitian Nichola for first turning me on to this recipe. I've since experimented with many different favours and it really is only limited to your imagination. But whatever flavour you go for it tastes amazing. It’s sweet, creamy and won’t break the calorie allowance. Take a look at the video, the recipe and tuck in.
Bananas are packed with fibre, vitamins and minerals and as they release their energy slowly this dessert should leave you feeling fuller and more satisfied for longer.
What you need
- 1 banana
- Your desired flavouring.
What you do
- Cut up a banana into small chunks (super ripe ones are best).
- Pop your banana chunks into the freezer overnight.
- Take your banana chunks out of the freezer and leave them to stand for no more than 5-10 minutes.
- Put your banana chunks into a blender, food processor or smoothie maker.
Add your chosen flavouring (see below).
Scoop the ice cream into a bowl - you'll probably need a knife to get to all the mixture that sticks to the sides.
That's it - you're done. You can either eat it straight away or put it back in the freezer. It should be good there for around a month.
I've played around with many different flavours, here are just a few ideas. If you try something new, let me know how it goes and send me a photo.
- Cacao powder and chopped nuts.
- Desiccated coconut.
- Peppermint extract.
- Vanilla essence.
- Apple and cinnamon.
