Here's a short exercise you can do each morning lying down. I do it every day and it changes my whole day, it can even change your whole life.
The key to changing your life begins in your own mind. You simply cannot achieve or change anything if you don't first believe in your own mind that you can do it. If your brain is in the habit of thinking in the negative how can you expect to achieve anything? That little voice inside your head tells you that you will fail before you even start. I know it can be hard to switch off all of those negative messages so how do you do it? The answer lies in your wiring.
Imagine your brain as a complex maze of connections, much like the inner workings of a computer. Then imagine there are blue wires for positive thoughts and black ones for negative thoughts. Every experience you have, everything you see, everything you do and everything you think creates either a blue or a black connection. The more you repeat that experience or have that same thought, the stronger that connection becomes or the thicker the wires become. If you have a lot of negative thought processes that's a lot of negative connections or a lot of thick black wires. Before long it becomes easier for your brain to make negative connections for everything. Then you end up with a brain filled with black connections. The only way to reverse this process and begin making positive or blue connections is to train your brain to change.
Like everything in life, the more you do it, the easier it becomes but first it may be difficult to do. If you have ever learned to drive I'm sure you will remember that feeling of being almost overwhelmed by all the things you had to think about at any one time. Check your mirrors, look ahead, indicate, watch your speed. However with practice all of this becomes easy and before long you can drive without having to consciously think about every single process. But it takes time for your brain to learn to do this.
The morning mantra
In order to turn yourself from a negative thinker to a positive one you need to start simple. Here's an exercise that I still do every single morning before I get out of bed and it can actually change the way I behave for the rest of the day. Before I get up I lie there and think of 5 things in my life that I have to be grateful for. Not material things like a house or a nice car, I'm talking about things that really matter.
My wife, my daughter, my friends, my health. Even things that many of us simple take for granted. Eyesight, the ability to walk, run, write, read. There are many people who are not lucky enough to have all of these things. So I am grateful for them. Pretty soon you will start to notice other things that you can be grateful for and that creates positive or blue connections in your brain. You are starting to change the way you think.
There are many other techniques I use to achieve amazing things in my life. In my book I talk about my gratitude stone and how that helps me to feel positive. I use my brain to make anything happen from finding a parking space to buying my dream car. But it all starts in my mind. I have first think it will happen otherwise it never will.
